Lyme Disease Awareness

May is Lyme Disease Awareness month, and our region is facing a growing public health threat from tiny ticks that may cause Lyme Disease. Research conducted by Paul Smiths College, in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health, has shown an increase in ticks carrying the bacteria that causes Lyme.

While we do not want to discourage people from enjoying the outdoors, we do want you to stay safe. Senator Betty Little’s office has provided brochures that should arrive in our library soon. And the New York State Department of Health has a video on how to safely remove a tick.
