Wanted: Art Show Organizers

The Tupper Lake Arts Council is unable to run the summer art show traditionally held the three week of July at the Goff-Nelson Memorial Library. The group is looking for someone to take it over for 2016. This would involve coordinating efforts with the library staff, advertising, mailing invites to potential artists, arranging for setup, enlisting volunteers to man the show and setting up a welcome table. The arts council has templates and letters, etc. used in the past to make organization easier. The art show is always anticipated and well received, and organizers said they would hate for it not to happen this year. Please call Donna Sloan at 359-3888 if you are willing to manage this year’s show.

Bob Freeman talks on FOIL and OML

On May 16th, Bob Freeman will give an overview of the Open Meetings Law (OML) and Freedom of Information Laws (FOIL): Everything You Wanted to Know About the Open Meetings and Freedom of Information Laws… But Were Afraid to Ask. Robert Freeman, Executive Director of the NYS Committee on Open Government provides an overview of OML and FOIL with emphasis on issues pertaining to boards of trustees. Bob is as entertaining as he is educational, and encourages audience questions. Bob has been with the Committee on Open Government since its creation in 1974. He has addressed numerous government, public interest and professional organizations, as well as students of law, journalism, public administration and information science and policy. All Town Board, Village Board, School Board, Church Board members, Trustees, etc. are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to hear this expert. This seminar is free, but please register with Peg Mauer so we have enough handouts. We’ll meet at 5:00 in the Community Room.
