It’s Banned Book Week again folks! Celebrate your freedom to read! Check out the 10 most frequently challenged books of 2013:

Literacy Volunteers is looking for volunteer tutors!

If you know someone who is interested in becoming a volunteer tutors, please share this information with them.

Literacy Volunteers of Essex/Franklin Counties will host tutor trainings this fall at each location: Port Henry, Lake Placid, and Malone.
This twelve-hour Basic Literacy training will give you the tools, tips, and strategies needed to help a student improve his/her reading skills.  

Locations, Dates, Times:

Port Henry- September 25th 1:00-4:00pm   (Register with Sandy Woods – )
Lake Placid- October 14th 5:30-8:30pm   (Register with Susan – )
Malone – October 2nd: 6:00-9:00pm         (Register with Darlene –

The first session is the orientation and additional dates and times will be announced then.

“The Schools We Imagine”

Tonight in our Community Room: “The Schools We Imagine”. Parents and Community Members, please join Carolyn Merrihew, Matt Southwick, and Seth McGowan for an informal forum on imagining our perfect schools. Our educational leaders are interested in mirroring our District on the ideas and values of our children’s home and community. Join us in the Community Room at 6:00 PM.
